To offer a place for children to enjoy being close to nature, the Gunma R&D Center (Meiwa-machi, Ohra-gun, Gunma-ken) uses its biotope to hold nature observation events for the local primary school children.
The Center invited thirty-seven school kids from Meiwa Higashi Elementary School on June 25th and seventy-one school kids from Meiwa Elementary School on July 4th to participate in the nature observation events.
The Gunma R&D Center's biotope is a habitat of a variety of animals and plants of more than one hundred kinds, including near-threatened species, living in the rich natural surroundings of forests, ponds, grasslands and brooks.
On those days of the events, the children caught crawfish in the pond, collected insects and observed plants in the grasslands. Their direct contacts with animals and plants helped them learn about nature. Big laughter was heard from everywhere in the biotope. We could see that the children were truly enjoying these nature observation events.
The Advantest Group will continue to host the nature observation events in the future.
